COVID-19 Outbreak Declared at St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School, Dunnville

(March 7, 2021) BRANTFORD – Today, the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit declared a COVID-19 outbreak at St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School in Dunnville. As outlined in the Ministry of Education’s Operational Guidance, an outbreak is defined as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff in a school with an epidemiological link, within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the school.

News of additional COVID-19 cases at St. Michael’s, Dunnville came today. The first case was identified on Friday, March 5, 2021. Understandably, for privacy reasons, the identity of the individuals who tested positive will not be disclosed. These individuals have been directed by the health unit to self-isolate along with any family members who reside in the same household. 

“Due to the number of active cases, including those individuals recently identified as close contacts, and to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and community members, in consultation with Public Health, St. Michael’s Dunnville will be closed for in-person learning, up to and including, Friday, March 19, 2021,” said Director of Education, Mike McDonald. “Before and After School Child Programs and the onsite Child Care Centre are also closed. As of this time, the school is scheduled to re-open on Monday, March 22, 2021.”

The St. Michael’s, Dunnville outbreak is being closely monitored and reported on by the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit.
